A government official has for the first time acknowledged the practice of injecting women of Ethiopian origin with the long-acting contraceptive Depo-Provera.
Health Ministry Director General Prof. Ron Gamzu has instructed the four health maintenance organizations to stop the practice as a matter of course. They were administered flu shots but got contraceptives as a "normal practice."
If you get this shot once, you have a 1 in 100 chance of getting a child (for approx 12 months.) The remainder of your life you have a 6 in 100 chance of getting a child.
