It's basicly just full of puss and will drain just like a zit with a small needle. Your pain is coming from the swelling. Try that first. Also, sucking on whole cloves and letting them sit against the swollen gum area will have a numbing effect that will last for a while. I didn't believe it either till I tried it.
Just went through this with a son with no job - no dentist - no $$. Swab area with clove oil (available in Middle Eastern and Asian markets)- great to numb the area. 'Swish' with warm salt water as often as possible. the abcess can be lanced and drained -- continue to swish with warm salt water. If you can get antibiotics from the emergency room, that would be best, but if not able to obtain, alternate rinsing with warm salt water followed by peroxide will help. the process can take about 72 hours before you will have noticable results. don't try to extract the tooth yourself - if the crown of the tooth breaks and the root(s) are left, you are setting yourself up for more problems. Is there a University with a Dental school in your area? you can 'walk-in' to their clinic and they will usually help you -- not the students!! the Professors will use you as a teaching aide -- all free of charge. Good Luck
