I have a house cat who used to go outdoors.  I never saw him kill anything.  Twice, he brought one of those big moths that only fly around at night into the house, and twice he brought home a snake.  All were alive and released back into nature.

Another cat was a killer.  He would kill mice by the dozens.  When the snow melted in Spring, I went around my small lawn with a salad bowl and filled it with soggy mouse carcasses.  I guess he didn't like the taste.

We had two cats as kids, mother and son.  The mother would catch a mouse and play with it for hours.  Then the son would come along and immediately chase off mom and eat the mouse.

Depends on the cat.
