It's a big deal IMO - particularly if folks in Washington, Istanbul or NATO HQ decide they want to lay the blame on Assad.
That is the weird part and you bring up a good point. If they wanted to attack Americans they would of hit Incerlik AFB about 20 min down the road. There are bars and shops full of american personal outside of the base in Adana that would of been a better target. why bomb an embassy and just take out the people working the reception desk when that same bomb could of taken out hundreds of air force personnel? I just checked the website for Incerlik and it looks like they just had a large 400 person deployment come in this month. looks like there building up for something... {snip} Approximately 400 U.S. personnel and equipment from the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Air Defense Artillery (3-2 ADA) based at Fort Sill, Okla., will continue to flow into Turkey over the next several days by U.S. military airlift. The troops will man two Patriot batteries supporting NATO's mission there. Additional equipment will be moved by sea, arriving later this month. The deployment of six Patriot batteries, including two each from Germany and the Netherlands, is in response to Turkey's request to NATO. The forces will augment Turkey's air defense capabilities and contribute to the de-escalation of the crisis along the Alliance's border. "Turkey is an important NATO ally and we welcome the opportunity to support the Turkish government's request in accordance with the NATO standing defense plan," said Navy Vice Adm. Charles Martoglio, U.S. European Command deputy commander. http://www.incirlik.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123331525
you can't easly attack military area protected with high security. Terrorists choose more easy targets to attack. The American Base in İncirlik/Adana/Turkey is too hard target. American embassy is a good choose to attack. There is no more security. Althoug the target is easiest of all targets, the sabotage was not succesful. The purpose of sabotage was to kill American personel. But, mission failed.
