Brazeau Senator Patrick Brazeau in jail, kicked out of Tory caucus. Senator appointed by PM Harper known for controversy; will sit as independent.

Canadians on GLP were not interested then. Perhaps now that they are choking on the garbage, more readers will pursue the subject.

HARPER'S TOKEN INDIAN

MAJOR FAIL - TORONTO STAR & NATIONAL POST EXPLAIN...

[link to www.thestar.com]

Sen. Patrick Brazeau referred to Spence’s “so-called hunger strike” in addressing about 80 people at a Legion hall in the Ottawa suburb of Orleans, and mocked her physical shape. “I was sick two weeks ago,” Brazeau said. “I had the flu and I lost five pounds.

“I look at Miss Spence, when she started her hunger strike, and now?” Brazeau added as a voice in the hall called out, “She’s fatter,” which drew laughter from much of the audience.

WHO IS THIS RESPECTED SENATOR AND ALGONQUIN QUEBEC LEADER?

Brazeau is not a university graduate. He holds a DEC from Quebec, which is the equivalent of grade 12 and 1st year university... not quite the same as an Associate Degree in the American system.

His base salary is $132,000 - plus expenses, plus housing allowance... for life.

Here are quotes, per link:

Brazeau’s bio on the official Parliament website tells us the senator is “a champion of the rights of Aboriginal peoples.” He was elected as National Chief of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples (CAP) in February 2006. And re-elected to a four-year term in 2008. And yet, he’s faced fraud allegations relating to the spending of funds received by CAP for aboriginal health programs.

(The Globe and Mail reported on January 19, 2009, that Health Canada auditors rejected almost $260,000 in congress expenses out of a budget of $472,900 allocated to the congress by the ministry, alleging that much of the money had been spent on board meetings where health issues were not discussed. - Wikipedia)

On June 26, 2012, Brazeau came under fire after attacking Canadian Press journalist Jennifer Ditchburn on Twitter. Brazeau publicly called Ditchburn a bitch after she reported on his poor Senate attendance record. Brazeau not only had poor attendance on the Senate floor: between June 2011 and April 2012, he missed 65% of meetings at the Standing Senate Aboriginal Peoples Committee on which he sits. Wikipedia

Sexual harassment complaints too. The CBC has reported that a complaint against Brazeau was filed with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. He faced allegations of inappropriate behaviour toward staff of CAP. A different woman who worked at the CAP office in Ottawa also filed an internal grievance against Brazeau. But Will Menard, a CAP board member from Manitoba, told CBC News that “the board voted not to release the final investigators’ report, but the executive summary said there was inappropriate behaviour.”

This is awkward, Stephen. But I think we both need to stop tiptoeing around the issue and just bring it up. When you pass legislation that basically assumes all the band councils and chiefs in Canada are corrupt, entitled freeloaders, your most visible indigenous spokesperson about the pressing need for legal reform should probably not be Senator Patrick Brazeau.

Headline of National Post article says it all:

Is Patrick Brazeau the best aboriginal Tories could find?
