They can't watch "you". They can tell what frequency or QAM you are tuned into but the can't see "you". Even your xbox 360 http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220120278904%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20120278904&RS=DN/20120278904 Its been here for awhile now and most people have a dvr.
Those are pending patents, and the Xbox one is possibly going to happen with the next one. I have worked in the cable industry for 7 years both in the field and in the highest level of networking and software support for the last 7 years. I can assure you, as of right now there is no camera or mic in those boxes. I've torn them apart myself and access the firmware daily.
I don't have to tear them apart to realize that there is no mic and/or camera in them. Not only would that be expensive on their part, but there would be MANY regulations as to what they could/couldn't do. They don't want the lawsuits and potential settlements down the road. That isn't to say at some point they might not install cameras/mics in the boxes, it just wouldn't be for what those who are paranoid assume. It would most likely be nothing more than assisting them in determining what channels you watch, and at what time. The reason this is unlikely to happen, besides the fact of the costs of adding mics/cameras to each box, is because they can already DO that. Essentially what I am saying, is not only is it NOT economically feasible, but it isn't even LOGICALLY feasible. They already have the information they are looking for, which contributes to finding out stats regarding network TV companies, and their programs.
OK TROLL STOP !!!! Verizon already passed a bill through the Senate for FIOS DVR's to watch and listen inside of all homes it is installed in... Check for yourself...
Do you rather enjoy misusing internet slang?
???:wtf:
A troll is usually someone who creates posts or threads on an internet forum, for the sole purpose of getting a reaction out of someone, or a group of people. If I wanted to get a reaction out of anyone, do you really think I'd post something so BORING as the fact that there are no microphones or cameras in TV boxes? Do you really think THAT would be how I troll an internet forum? I believe perhaps you were looking for the word 'shill'. I can only assume that is what you meant, since it is the popular insult on this forum , thrown around by those who refuse to accept that other people can come to separate conclusions regarding a subject on their own accord. Few cable subscribers realize it, but each time they switch channels, their TV provider makes a note of it. Today, that data is primarily used for internal research and to inform ratings. But newly published work from researchers at AT&T shows how it could also be used to make TV advertising more compelling
