Forget Linux.  While Ubuntu and other Linux distros are making it easier for people to use, they still require you to learn terminal commands.  I tried Ubuntu and Linux Mint for about a year.  They both suck.  It takes a lot of terminal use to get something to work right, such as a wireless printer.  Linux also made my pc run much hotter than if I was in Windows.

Most of the Linux programs you install after setting up your Linux OS, are crappy and buggy.  They look and run like Windows 95 programs.  If Linux was such a great OS, why isn't it the most widely used and supported OS?

Comparing an O/S speed, as if they are related somehow, on entirely different computers was an easy giveaway.

I will say that Windows 8 doesn't seem any faster.  I think speed depends MORE on the computer you are using.  I'm used to having good speed because I pay for a nice laptop that has it.

Original Message So I recently upgraded to a new laptop, that came with Windows 8. It's a Sony Vaio, and super fast: 8 GB RAM, 1 TB hard drive, 3d generation I-7 processor, HD display and webcam, backlit keyboard.....I'm kinda a computer geek deep down, in that, I like my laptop to be fast and have good specs.

Anyway....I've only had it about a week, and I'm just wondering - is there anything, besides the start page, that is that different then windows 7? Anything I should look at/play around with?
