Just think of the mass hysteria of evacuating.

Just think about if they're wrong and the asteroid misses or hits
somewhere else, even in the evacuation zone.

Just think about a nation who could nudge the asteroid's path
JUST ENOUGH with an orbital laser platform to create a ionized
jet on the asteroids surface to make a meteor hit an enemy nation.

I can think of a million reason why TPTB would NOT warn you of
an impending meteor strike ... and no reason in the world why
they would give you heads up in any way whatsoever.

In fact, if it worked in their favor, they'd probably even LIE to
you that the meteor strike would be a "near miss"!
