Whatever happened to old hymnals that had an actual message and that took instrumental talent to pull off?
Examples. Amazing Grace, Holy Holy Holy, How great thou art, And the circle will be unbroken. Songs with a real message and structure.
People once put effort into keeping a note, reading the music, staying on key.
And today we have watered down muzak where any trendy type strum a guitar, not actual chords, a cracked voice soccer mom crooning and the lyrics go like this. "You are worthy, lalalala, worthy and amazing, lalalalal, worthy, lalalala...." and so on.
Just kind of a mash up, no real effort at all. God is a creator and he instilled in his creation the ability to create so why not? Why just plumb through it?
Maybe someone can help me out with this. It seems not only is culture today generally being dumbed down but the church is being filtered as well.
Thanks.
