The combination of social welfare programs, borrowing, the real employment situation, government spending trends, and the lack of any viable solutions, there is no pulling out of this nose dive.

60% of all jobs lost since last recession were middle income jobs. 58% of new jobs created since then are low wage jobs. 41% of working age Americans are unemployed (this counts those falling out of the unemployment statistics as "Stopped looking for work"). Government now employs more than the private sector. Federal workers earning 60% more than the average worker in the private sector. Public pensions seriously underfunded ($4.6 trillion). US share of global GDP down from 32% in 2001 to 22% in 2011. And much more.
