Original Message Maybe there are some GLPers out there who already know the scam, but for those who do not, here's the scoop:

Spend $3-5,000 of your own money, or get government grant, or go to community college program, while you support yourself, all to get a CDL. Many take out a loan, or indenture themselves to the company they go to work for... they leave and then are hounded by collection agencies.

But say you get the commercial license. Then what?

The "rookies" get herded into a big company...

(Check out Forum at www.thetruckersreport.com under the heading "Bad Companies" - these are the ones that recruit newbies.)

You are forced to team-drive 24/7 with a complete stranger, who may have "issues." You are stuck in the cab of a tractor trailer together. It is rush to make a delivery, sometimes not given enough time by dispatch to get there per schedule; and then it takes a couple of hours to get into a dock to unload.

Guess what? The directions are wrong. Or the load isn't ready. They are closed. You have to sit in your truck in the parking lot all weekend?!

If you drop a trailer, you need to get an empty, which means you drive around another hour or so looking for 'the right one' in lots of several hundred. It may not be there at all.

You will learn to take a leak in a coffee can, man or woman. Stopping at a gas station or rest stop takes time, and your "trainer" may tell you to suck it up.

The truck will break down - guaranteed. Hours waiting for a tow, hours at the garage waiting to get through the company phone lines to get an authorization number for a repair.

No income. You are paid by the mile you roll.

You are robbed by the company accounting departments, who always claim documentation is 'lost'. Sure. Takes weeks to straighten out, if you want your money bad.

Make an enemy of another trucker, your trainer, or someone in the office, and your days are numbered, even if you have done nothing wrong. It is a pack mentality, looking for a victim. Got it?

Injured on the job, as many are? Another nightmare waiting to happen.

Anyway, here is the best professional truckers blog, going for several years, and getting nowhere making improvements that are needed in the industry.

Read the February 6th article... completely exposes the lies about salaries which lure in many of all ages, to have their dreams busted.
