[quote:Anonymous Coward 18880329:MV8yMTM4OTAzXzM2MTE4NjU2XzlBQjE3OEQy] [quote:Ninja G 24571637:MV8yMTM4OTAzXzM2MTE4NDIzX0E2MUVDRUY0] There is a sort of split between the people who know the real science and the people who know the public science. The problem for the powers that be is they need to have scientists that understand the real science in order to develop the real top secret advanced stuff, but they need to enforce a strict public status quo of a sleightly inferior older model of physics. This way only the few controlled people have access and are compartmentalized and the general public remains ignorant. the real biggest threat of these advanced technologies is that they empower the people, they free people from the rat race, they free people from stress. They make humongous corporations obsolete. They would wipe out whole industries. No more big oil. No more gas stations. No more Power company. No more electric bills. No more smart meters.
Good points. I've wondered about this for awhile. I mean, the public science still produces many things. Unfortunately, most don't get any real attention, but look at the front of a Popular Science mag each month and you'll see tons of stuff from businesses or universities that are already made or in development. However, what you said about hoarding certain aspects of science is certainly possible and I think experimentation will tell us that faster than the string theories and such. With so many dimensions (degrees of freedom), I almost feel like the theorists eventually will find what they're looking for.. but with a bunch of other equations that "pop out" that make no physical sense. It's clear that companies try and horde tech, so maybe they and the govt. are also hoarding secret aspects of physics itself as well.
Imagine what would happen if an evil-minded regime like North Korea, a terrorist group (be it fundamentalistic, anarchistic or whatever radical doctrine) or anyone with bad intention would have access to it, willing to use this unlimited energy power source in a massively destructive way ...
Unlimited energy = unlimited damage in the wrong hands!
Mankind has to grow really REALLY mature and enlightened before such an overwhelming power could be trusted to us.
