Even if it was all a scam and I am living as Jesus would want me to live with all my love in my heart, my mind, my soul and my strength for God and to love my neighbor as I do myself, I am still living a wonderful love filled life that is full of daily joy. What is your alternative?
There doesn't have to be an alternative. This is how EVERY person should live. We all know Christians who cheat on their wives, cheat on their taxes, covet your new car, are greedy, etc. So living for Jesus, as you say, does not make you perfect. America is a Christian nation, and look around you. IF Jesus was REALLY living in the hearts of most people, would we see the crime and poverty that we do? Maybe you do love your neighbor as yourself, but so do I. I am an atheist and loving your neighbor is just common sense. I don't need some book to teach me morals. I am not an atheist so I can sin. That is just stupid. I am an atheist because all my questions were answered by being one. You could look at a country like Denmark where the people are largely atheist, and they have a much lower crime rate than in America. If you have a wonderful love filled life, that is fine. So do I. But I don't need to believe in a fantasy to have that. I can appreciate this life I have and be a good person and I don't need to depend on a crutch. I am brave to admit to myself that I won't live after death so I do enjoy this life I have and appreciate it. Do you understand?
I do understand but what if Jesus is real and when you die you don't enter oblivion and there is a day in which you stand before God. Either way I am alright. That's what I meant. You are living a good and honorable life too. Not because you have but because you want to. That is the very same reason I do. The reason you don't see all Christians live as Jesus taught is that they might not be living with Jesus yet. I don't know anyone else's story but my own.
Well, if you were living in India, you would be a Hindu today. So what if they are correct about their many gods and Jesus was just a myth. Or what if Allah is the correct God and you burn in hell because you were born in the wrong country. There are tons of different gods, even tons of denominations of Christians. For instance, all Mormons think they are practicing the one true religion. Do you honestly sit around and worry about the fact that you may go to hell because you never worshiped in the Mormon church? I don't worry about such things as dying and going to hell. I know one thing though, ANY god who creates a place of permanent torture for his "beloved" children is NOT a good God. That God would be a demon and there would be no way to trust such a deity. So maybe you should worry about that? Do you only worship your god out of extreme fear? That is not love, by the way. Could you torment your beloved son or daughter for a day? I'll bet you couldn't, and yet this God that you worship does this to people forever??? How can you reconcile your belief in God with that? How do you do that?
You bring up many good questions that I don't have the answer for. I do know when I get I chance I will ask some of them and more. One thing I do know is that Jesus said that I am the "only" way. None of the other belief systems claim that at least that I know of. Also, I don't belong to a denomination of a religion. I have a personal relationship with a living person. I know I do because I know Him personally. First I accepted Him. Then I began to recognize Him. I don't have blind faith based upon fear or a book. I have communion with a loving being who I know personally.
Wow! God bless you, not many are talking? Folks do not believe it is possible to commune with God? But it is a gift of God's grace and mercy....Never the less it is FREE and available to all you seek God...though it is not performance driven. It is a gift, gifts are given. :chorus::grouphug::chorus::grouphug::smile_kiss:
Thank you. And He is always, always, always available to hear from you. But I bet you knew that already. :happykitty:
No man I did not always know that. I thought God abandoned me once, for three days I was in the desert on the edge of a "Grand Canyon". The air was dry and the wind was warm. What happened was I was raised in a family that put Priests on a pedistal. Well that same guy volunteered to be my "Spiritual Director". I thought wow how luckey, but he had other designs on me which became apparent and I confronted him on the issue and he did not deny it. I was f'n floored...my world crumbled. I was over 18 but it was a f'cking insult. I thought God, Jesus Christ and their teachings were rubbish. Thus the 3 days of desert living in my mind. Well about 30 years later I realized by God's grace that man did me a favor..I came out of that major religion 30 years ago and never looked back. I figured if a Church of any organization teaches 99% correctly the scriptures but everyone mindlessly sits ther vs someone struggling to learn God's Scriptures as in the 4 Gospels and are only %1 correct....I believe that 1% is more valuable than 99% correct scripture if one is just mindlessly nodding yes, no, sit, stand, kneel.....:wtf: After the 3 days I realized a man f'kd me over not God, Jesus or their Scriptures. Now orgaized reigions are fantasitc for a sense of community and they hold wonderful retreats that are not really associated with everyday organized church techings. The retreats are spiritual in nature and the Lord's presence can be felt. That was 30 to 40 years ago...now? :hf: :afro::hf:
