A large meteor or asteroid could strike earth with little or no warning because our current telescopes can not detect many of them due to light contamination from the sun.

To be able to effectively detect most threats from space, a telescope would have to orbit VENUS, focusing away from the sun, and towards earth and its environs.

Plans to install such a telescope are in the works. But will it be completed in time?
