Original Message I always see this on my electric bill and I finally decided to try and figure out what it is.

And I read my city's explanation on their website.
"The Payment-in-Lieu-of-Tax is an amount equal to the taxes that would be charged for utilities if the utility were privately owned."


I'm far from a tax code expert, in-fact, it confuses the hell out of me.. LOL

Also, does this still apply if you are outside of city limits? It's kind of strange but my neighborhood is in the city, yet it is outside of city limits because they voted not to have it annexed, or something like that. We have city electric but we have to provide our own trash service and we are not subject to city ordinances.

Anyway, I just thought I'd throw this out there to see if it's a pretty normal thing, or if I should be calling my utility company?
