Their civilization ended 65 million years ago, they are reptoids, who discovered time travel. Their species discovered a series of natural disasters was about to overtake the Earth, culminating in the great meteor impact that would eliminate their cousins the dinosaurs. The time gates were opened, and most of them arrived many millions of years in our future, some were lost in the jump. The lost ones found another as they appeared in our time, eventually forming what we call the illuminati. They have used their knowledge and experience over the millenia to blend in, and interbreed with our species, awaiting the time in the future, when their civilization reemerges to claim the Earth again
