Original Message Nationwide protest in Bulgaria: Protesters in Plovdiv burn the Constitution

Plovdiv. Bulgaria’s second biggest city of Plovdiv joined the nationwide protest that takes place in Bulgaria today.

The protesters burnt the Constitution of Bulgaria as a mark of a protest, saying that it does not protect the rights of the citizens but only of the rich people, Radio FOCUS – Plovdiv reported.

The protesters are backed by representatives of the Podkrepa Labour Confederation and their leader Atanas Krastev, as well as by the Regional structure of the Bulgarian Medical Union.

Tens of university students from Plovdiv joined the demonstration, saying that they do not have any political demands but only ask for fair and good education and jobs in Bulgaria.

Some separate remarks against outgoing prime minister Boyko Borisov were heard amidst the crowd. The protest proceeds at the background of patriotic songs and poems by Bulgarian writer and poet Ivan Vazov.

At some moment the protesters went down on their knees in the name of Bulgaria and started singing the national anthem.

Around 300 people arrived at the gathering point of the protest. More people started joining the crowd and the number reached several thousands, according to the local media. The protest is also backed by representatives of the minorities, in the person of the imams from Plovdiv.

The protest procession is planned to end up in front of the office of EVN power distribution company, then the protesters plan to block the 6th Septemvri Boulevard and start another procession along the Tsar Boris III Boulevard.
