Original Message On Wednesday, Israeli media quoted President Barack Obama as saying that the United States may launch an attack on Iran in June 2013. The topic is expected to be discussed during Obama’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu scheduled for next month.
Referring to a possible military strike on Iran, Obama said in last year’s interview that “now I feel an obligation, not pressure but obligation, to make sure that we’re in close consultation with the Israelis — on these issues. Because it affects them deeply. They’re one of our closest allies in the region. And we’ve got an Iranian regime that has said horrible things that directly threaten Israel’s existence.”

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran has begun to install advanced centrifuges at its main uranium enrichment facility, in a move that sparked concerns that Israel could be hit with a nuke.

At the moment, five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany are in talks with Iranian officials in Kazakhstan, where they are trying to arrive at a political accommodation on the Iranian nuclear program.

Speaking to reporters in Berlin earlier this week, US Secretary of State John Kerry expressed hope that “Iran will make its choice to move down the path to a diplomatic solution.”

Alluding to Obama’s upcoming visit to Israel, US National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said, for his part, that the trip will mark an “opportunity to reaffirm the deep and enduring bonds between the United States and Israel and to discuss the way forward on a broad range of issues of mutual concern, including Iran and Syria.”
