Original Message People are workaholics, always busy with something and if they have nothing to do, they get nervous.
What work are trees doing, and what work are birds doing? And what work are the sun and the moon and the stars doing? Except man, nobody is so insane to think that you have a certain great work to complete.

People look at each other and want to see each other work. They call you lazy and try to make you feel bad if you do nothing.
Naturally everyone has to do a little work to make a living but typically society has a built in reward system for overachievers. That's why there are so many people in politics and on Wall Street. That's why there are wars, because people can't just be and celebrate existence in all simplicity. They have to go farther, faster and get richer.

Parents push their kids telling them that they have to be somebody important in life and that they have to work all their lives. They're afraid of having a lazy vagabond kid. But what if the kid would be happier as a vagabond than as a busy lawyer?

The ego wants you to be indispensable to existence, that without your work, existence will not be complete.

People are giving nourishment to their ego by believing that by fulfilling work they will have fulfilled their destiny.

Existence is not a work, it is a celebration. People don't celebrate enough driven by guilt feeling that they have to work all the time to be respected and admired in society.
Work is destroying the whole beauty of life and existence. By the time you stop working, you may just drop dead because you're too worn out and your mind is so conditioned with work related stuff that existence couldn't care less about. I hear people talk about work everywhere and all the time. At lunch, on the bus, at parties. They never shut up and are missing the whole beauty of life presenting itself as the great cosmic joke.
