Looks like a nuke test from Russia, in their remote northern regions near the sea. That explains both the sound and EM disruption of radio waves, and yes it's believable that it could be felt in that base, because the radio waves are traveling better on sea than land.
radio waves travel at 186000 miles per second regardless of sea or land ....and a satellite phone is still a vhf radio transciever
I was not referring to the speed of waves, but their propagation, which is higher on sea than land. Satellite phones are on microwave frequencies, in direct connection with satellites (vertically triangulated signals). VHF is much lower frequencies, and are horizontally propagated signals to and fro GROUND antennas. Hence why it's possible that horizontal wave EMPs will not disrupt satellite phones.
This is very true, and I know for an absolute fact cell phones can be disrupted while GPS, satellite television and satellite phones are still operational
...because that mostly has got to do with horizontal Vs vertical waves. The EMP from a nuke, or EMP nuke, would most likely send a horizontal wave, unless perhaps activated above the targeted area.
Yep, or from any source really
I can not indipendantly verify but I will tell you what I know.
I have a Friend that's Stationed at Base Borneo in the high Arctic, nothing special, just works for a tour company that takes people to the pole.
he just called me to see if I could get any information for him about what is happening.
"All of our radios are down, and we saw a huge flash from Russia, fallowed by a deep growling sound coming from the ice around ten minutes later."
any ideas?
UPDATE
I got ahold of my mother at Thule, she says things are chaotic right now at the base but it's doesn't seem like there is any severity to their actions.
but still can't get anything out of Borneo.
