[quote:Anonymous Coward 37229072:MV8yMTg3ODU4XzM3MDI4NzM4XzdBNDBDRkE3] [quote:Anonymous Coward 36555947:MV8yMTg3ODU4XzM3MDI4MjI2XzgyMjgxMTBB] What everybody knows and nobody talks about -- if North Koreans reach Seoul, they'll be perfectly safe from tactical nukes. In regards to (imaginary fairytale of) International Law, both Koreas have the right to 'reclaim' the territory they lost in the war. If it doesn't escalate into something much bigger, this will be either a textbook example of a blitzkrieg operation, or a complete disaster for North Koreans (and Chinese, by extension). If it turns out to be a successful operation, it should be seen as a blueprint to be followed by other 'frozen conflicts' in the world.
I've been in Korea (not as military). Tough people on both sides of the line. The Korean Rangers had the highest kill ratio of any grouping in the Vietnam War. Yes, there were some Koreans fighting there against the Cong as part of the, ahem....... International Effort. Tough bunch of folks. The Chinese (I've been in China as well) that crossed the river way back when were tough too. And they had more firepower per unit than the U.S. thanks to the burp gun. The burp gun: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PPSh-41 And a quote from a U.S. infantry captain: "On full automatic it sprayed a lot of bullets and most of the killing in Korea was done at very close ranges and it was done quickly - a matter of who responded faster. In situations like that it outclassed and outgunned what we had. A close-in patrol fight was over very quickly and usually we lost because of it." The U.S.S.R. fielded more sub-machine guns than any other army during WW2. Again.... the burp. Buuurrrrpppp: Just some historical info. Forward to Now. I know better than to underestimate what can be done. As I stated in an earlier post.... take out the tech and the U.S. will be at a disadvantage in toe to toe combat. Were then. Will be today... with the things that make the tech possible taken out.
China has placed military forces on heightened alert in the northeastern part of the country as tensions mount on the Korean peninsula following recent threats by Pyongyang to attack, U.S. officials said.
