[quote:Anonymous Coward 12528421:MV8yMTk0NzkzXzM3MTQzNTcyX0NFQ0JFRDJF] [quote:Anonymous Coward 37573475:MV8yMTk0NzkzXzM3MTQzMzQ2X0U2MDYwNjQ2] It must be a scam that Americans can't get products made with cane sugar. Why all the "corn syrup"? Sugar is cheap and easily available.
In a way it is. I remember hearing that HFCS is like 40x more sweet than regular sugar. Therefore it is more addictive. Then Aspertame is even sweeter and more addictive than that! I stopped drinking all soda for my New Years Resolution, and I went through the weight loss myself, but not the body jitters. I will say that I did have a rough time getting on to coffee, and usually have to put a bit of cane sugar in my first cup. I think its mainly so my stomach has something to actually process, as I don't need it afterward. I've also noticed I maintain about the same energy level as before, even though my caffiene and sugar intake are severely reduced (I'd say close to 60%...probably more, but coffee is the oddball on that). When I sleep I sleep sounder, and have noticed my body healing up pretty well. I had some pains from an old stress fracture injury, but between this and some calcium supplements it went away in a couple of days. The hardest part about stopping is getting hooked on water. You're so used to having taste in your drink that to have nothing is almost like having something that tastes bad. What I started doing was putting a little sea salt in my water. Not a lot, but just enough to at least fool my tastebuds into it not being water and accepting it as something that was good. This was for a week then I started to tone it down and now I don't use any at all. I suppose someone else could use raw sugar or maybe honey depending on what they want to do, but I prefer salty over sweet most of the time so that is what I went with.
First let me say that I have not fully escaped it yet since it is in so many foods but since most of our consumption of nutrients comes through drinking liquids I have cut out alot.
First. I lost a ton of weight immediately. I cut out ALL soda and fake juices which are juices with 2% juicy and a ton of High fructose corn syrup.
My legs below the knee were killing me and tightening up like crazy when I walked, this stoppd almost immediately when I stopped the High fructose corn syrup.
I replaced it with 100% juice or Water. I still drink sugar in coffee or tea but stopped buying the ready made tea.
A day or two after stopping my muscles would spasm like crazy all over my body and I would get painful cramps with the slightest movement. I hear that this is what heroin addicts go through.
It was scary as hell. I was very thirsty for water probably because I was not getting the water from the artificial juice and soda.
Drinking pure juice is expensive as hell and that is ad living in the wealthiest country in the world, America.
Americans blame themselves for being fat but no one stops to realize the increase in production of CHEAP highly processed, high salt foods that were not on the shelves in the 1970's and before that.
Americans need to be subsidized for healthy foods and I'm not ashamed to say it because if Oil companies and Big Agriculture can be subsidized then Americans should not be priced out of eating healthy.
Why didn't Bloomberg in NY go after companies who produce products mad with High Fructose corn Syrup, instead he went all Nanny State and tried to control the publics consumption.
But it begs the question: If these Drinks called "Sugary" drinks(Which actually have no Sugar in them) are so bad why are companies being allowed to used this fattening toxic sweetener?
Americans need to star thinking for themselves and stop letting Capitalism frame every debate.
