Since the energy level is determined by velocity, and we see a wide spectrum of energy levels increasing simultaneously, it translates into protons already near Earth were accelerated by the blast by a magnetic impulse if I am interpreting the data correctly.
These are very unusual times indeed. The solar maximum has been delayed somewhat but the x ray flares we have had have exhibited exaggerated effects. We no longer have the magneto pause simulation data because I think it is all but gone and the data being with held. The magnetosphere itself has been fairly stable and strong as of late, but we have data but from two geo stationary satellites. We KNOW the magnetosphere has large voids in it.
