This year Buddha's birthday falls on May 17th. It's an opportunity to reflect, meditate, and focus on the importance of spreading joy and truth wherever you go.
It's also an opportunity to
defend
truth. Buddhists often talk about spreading joy and being truthful, but an important aspect of Buddhism is the recognition that truth must be defended, most fundamentally from oneself. The tendency and desire to ignore the truth in favor of other values is great, and so the need to cultivate objectivity and rationality is most great.
So regardless of whether you are a Buddhist or not, take this opportunity to reflect on joy and truth and objectivity.
