Original Message Pigeon peas are an easy way to add to your food security. Pigeon peas are a staple food that provide good protein. Not only are they delicious, they are prolific and easy to grow. Although it is a subtropical plant, it can be grown as an annual in colder climates. It proudces pods with edible peas in eight months and grows 12 ft within a year.

But there's more. This is a nitrogen fixing plant. It improves the soil. It can be used as a cover crop or planted near fruit trees . The branches are used for mulch or can be fed to livestock. Chickens can eat the green peas. (Or cooked peas of course) .
