[quote:LADY ENIGMA:MV8yMzE2NjQxXzM5NDgyNDM3XzlGNjFEQTE=] [quote:Anonymous Coward 44597225:MV8yMzE2NjQxXzM5NDgxODYxXzg2NEQxQTVC] I never minded my tax dollars going to help people in need. Some people are dirt poor...just a fact of life. But it always goes that you create a good thing for some and in no time....it gets abused by the lazy. The hospitals are overrun with people who don't have insurance, illegals and otherwise. Not because they can't afford it...but because they don't want to pay for it. So when you have hard working people picking up the tab for the lazy ones...what happens? Then everyone has to pay for it across the board. That's the idea behind Obama care. Just like you have to pay for auto insc. and home owners insc...same thing. Left to make a choice...most wouldn't get it unless mandatory. I don't like it, you don't like it. But we can't have people continuing to abuse the system, using hospitals when they get sick and then say "screw it, let someone else pay for it" ...legal citizen or not. If Obama didn't crack down on charitable hospitals...they'd all be over there wanting freebee services.
I think you are confusing a "charitable hospital" with a regular hospital that accepts people with no insurance. A charitable hospital is like St. Jude's that accepts critically ill children regardless of insurance and is not financed by the State or Federal government. These are the hospitals that Obama wants to control now because they are exempt from ACA. These exemptions aren't part of the original plan that Obama wanted but had to allow due to pressure. The hospitals you are referring to are either State run or they are teaching hospitals where the abuse has occurred. Now these hospitals will have to be a part of Obamacare, but their funding has increased dramatically. :ogrrr:
Charitable hospitals that treat uninsured Americans will be subjected to new levels of scrutiny of their nonprofit status and could face sizable new fines under Obamacare.
The first thing that popped into my mind is places like St. Jude's Hospital.
How dare he try to close all the non-profit hospitals! This is complete madness!
