While the administration and congress are concerned with gathering support for combat operations in Syria, with a particular justification being American validity and reputation around the world, their intentions and plans will ironically serve as a death knell to American legitimacy, and quite possibly America itself. I have never been one to cower down from a fight, and I fully supported and served in both Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. However, that experience and others in combination with my observation of what is happening today give me absolutely no reason to support this illegal and disgraceful idea to intervene in Syria.
Have we not yet learned our lesson? Now, with common allies standing in opposition to what our leaders are calling a moral imperative, we are staged to make the same mistake, most likely for the last time. Our actions will galvanize anti-American support in a way that has never been seen before, both domestically and elsewhere, leaving other established and respected nations with no other alternative than to position themselves against us, leading to a global conflict that will not end in Syria, but here - where our complacency and arrogance have left us completely and unmistakeably vulnerable.
Based on what I have seen in threads on this website, I am fairly confident that most of you share my sentiments, and I cannot help but think most Americans, at least those engaged in current events, share these sentiments as well. I do not believe that our elected representatives will be dissuaded by public opinion, no matter how strong that may be. They either know of our opposition and think they know better, or they simply do not care. Either way, this leaves us with only one viable and moral choice, and that is kinetic and violent opposition to our own government. With the growing dissent in the highest levels of the military, this may be more effective than many of us realize. So my question to you, will we allow our government to proceed unabated by our words, or will we put our words, our values, and our principles into action?
