Another misconception. The knowledge has not been "hidden" so that it can only be enjoyed by a few. The knowledge has been encrypted in allegorical symbols in order to disguise it from people interested in destroying that knowledge. The initiated will know how to read the symbols without fear of persecution. Once again recall the church and how it killed people for disagreeing with their nonsense like the orbit of the planets, etc.

The encryption was not malicious. It was done to protect sacred knowledge and alchemy is merely an aspect of it.

There are however fraternities of men who have hijacked masonry, infiltrated it in order to corrupt its ideals. The purpose of a true mason is to master thought, desire, and action. If you are reminded of Buddhism you are correct. The depth of the mysteries predate any man identifying himself as a Freemason. Ancient wisdom is just that, ancient and nameless and has roots in every aspect of human discovery and on every corner of the planet.

Corrupt men have tainted the art of Freemasonry in order to blind us from the truth of the quest and repel people from the idea, so that people are easily manipulated. The true ideals of a man are demonstrated through self mastery and the quest for enlightenment.
