Original Message Read it. Anthony Burgess is a great writer (he is the author of "A Clockwork Orange"), but his 1962 book "The Wanting Seed" is mostly forgotten. Probabaly because it hits uncomfortably close to the truth. It paints a dystopian near-future world where a society obsessed with overpopulation and the environment tries to eradicate heterosexuality.

The government uses the slogan, "It's Salpiens to be Homo." Fashion is androgynous; the media glorifies whispy, wimpy men and mannish women. There is open discrimination against heterosexuals. The media is instrumental in pushing this, and it is also enforced by the government. Sterilization is encouraged. As the book progresses (WARNING: minor spoiler), even cannibalism is encouraged to thin the population, with cannibalistic "dining clubs" becoming all the rage.

Burgess called it. Read this book and be amazed.
