I wouldnt mind a good job in china so I would have a legit reason to leave the states. Is your company hiring? As to answer your questions. Get a good contact who is a driver / translator that you know you can trust, and that is beyond what they are paid cause that wont get your somebody trusted. Dont fuck with their government, they wont fuck with you, however the closer to Beijing you are the more bullshit you gotta deal with. Dont do something stupid. Walking around at 3 AM in back alleys where the whores and gangsters are is not good where ever you happen to be on the planet. Pay for your drinks and food in commercial establishments as they come. Dont go to KTV unless you know the person taking you. DONT GAMBLE PERIOD, you will lose all your money. These people all gamble when they arent doing anything else. Grandma can out bluff you with full on cataracts. Dont mess with the military police. If you have to deal with them your in a mess. The guys in police cars, the block watchmen, and the traffic cops are not military police, they are the conductors in th chaos that is China. Once again if your around beijing its a different story. Dont get married in country. Dont drink the water, only bottled water. Take some western food with you that you really like. Beef jerky, M&M's, some kind of favorite cereal. At 3am in yor hotel eating that food will give you better peace of mind than any drug in the world. Realize that 90 percent of the people in China are common good people who want to earn a living, take care o their families, and have a little fun in life. Same as th peopel from your country. They just talk funny and sound liek chin chang chong, you sound like floofa fluffa fliffa to them if you really ant to know. Lear how to use chopsticks. Dont worry at day 4 without eating you will learn how to. neccessity is the mother of invention and humans cna adapt pretty dam fast. Dont get a cheap massage from a girl on the street, thats a setup and you will get fleeced, screwed, robbed, or killed by her gangster friends. You dont know what your eating, but the food is natural. DONT eat streetfood. If you have never been to Asia remember that in 2 weeks your brain will be fried. its a different world over there. Half of what you knw is true, the other half is totally wrong If you get over there and want to stay please tell me. I have a 1500 square foot house for rent in Guilin. Im looking for people to rent to. I havent moved there yet but am looking for an excuse to go. Please answer my question if your company is hiring. I can post an email so you can talk to me directly if they are.
Thank you for the excellent post. There are two of us going as workers and one consultant to randomly spot check what we do to make sure we are doing what we are paid to do and doing it within the specs. There is no one else needed and it requires a team of two to do the job. I spent 6 years in post secondary school and countless other years getting upgrades in my training. No disrespect but very specialized so I doubt that you qualify anyway. As for the food, that is beginning to freak me out. I have worked in Europe and the USA extensively and to be honest we rarely interact with the locals. There will be no gambling, dealing with whores, drugs, etc. I have been doing this work for over 20 years and have not even come close to getting into trouble. China will be different because White people stand out. As for the location Lan-chou area is all that I know so far. There will be a lot of ground to cover so I think that we will be doing a lot of traveling. I have not seen the maps yet. EDIT: I have a real problem of being accused of something that I did not do. I will not pay bribes and will not pay stupid fines for made up laws on the spot. That may be my weakness. I've never encountered that situation before with respect to a government official. Hmmm I really have to think about this one. If I do the job I can take the rest of the year off and just hang out here. Decisions decisions!
Original Message
I have a chance to go do a 2 month contract in China (remote locations only) and wondered if any of you had any experience working in rural China.
I am white so wondered if that matters positively or negatively.
Thanks
