Pat Robertson reports from Israel-Lebanon border

VIRGINIA BEACH - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson turned war correspondent Tuesday on "The 700 Club" television show as he reported live from northern Israel on the border conflict there.
"I'm here, ladies and gentlemen, in Metullah, Israel," Robertson said, his hair wind-blown. "In the background, you hear the rumble of artillery fire; from time to time, Katushya rockets fly overhead."
Robertson ordinarily hosts "The 700 Club" from the Virginia Beach studios of the Christian Broadcasting Network, which he founded. The show typically relies on its own correspondents for news reports, and currently has three in Israel and one in Lebanon, according to CBN.
Robertson reported from the border with Lebanon, and also from the scene of what he called an Israeli building wrecked by a Hezbollah rocket. He said he would report again from the field today.
Robertson, an evangelical preacher, is a passionate supporter of Israel, as was evident during Tuesday's broadcast.
"I'm here, among other things, to tell your people the evangelical Christians of America are with you, we're praying for you," he said during an interview in Haifa.
Robertson said the fighting between Hezbollah forces and the Israeli army could be "the frontline of a war that one day might come to the United States," and suggested Hezbollah might be a proxy for Iran and Syria.
Robertson is among evangelicals who believe that current events, especially those in the Middle East, could be fulfilling biblical prophecies. On his July 18 show, he lectured on parallels between the Book of Ezekiel and the current crisis.
"Some of us have been waiting: Is this the end of it all? No. Is this what precedes the coming of the Lord? I don't think so," he said.
Angell Vasko, a CBN spokeswoman, said in an e-mail that Robertson will be in Israel until Thursday. He is traveling with Michael Little, CBN's president. # Reach Steven G. Vegh at (757) 446-2417 or [email protected].
