Here's the recipe. Get a yellow onion (or use a sweet onion in a pinch). Slice the onion. Put one slice in a jar or container, then cover it with a layer of sugar. Add a second onion slice, then cover with another sugar layer. Repeat until the onion is used. Your first dose of syrup should be ready in a couple of hours, while 12 to 18 hours will yield an ample supply of ready-made colds and flu syrup.
