Original Message The words “Agape”, “Philos”, and “Eros” are taken from the Greek language and are three different expressions of love that are available.

Agape love is the perfect love that originates from God and is the characteristic of God. This love is unconditional, it is a love that always forgives and endures with patience through any hardship or attacks from outside influences. This Agape love cannot be shaken or altered. It is the heart of God that we as humans would experience His unconditional Agape love in all the fullness that it is. This love can be experienced by the human through the spirit and soul only by being united and joined together spiritually through Christ. Jesus Christ is the expression of God the Father’s Agape love to the world. Many here at Glp have never experienced the Agape love that is from God and therefore reject the concept that God is the full expression of unconditional Agape love.

The second love is ‘Philos’ and consists of an earthly love that is found through bonding together with friends, marriages and family ties. Philos love is imperfect when placed in comparison to Agape love. Philos love can have limitations and conditions that have the ability to break the love. This is seen in many relationships that have been broken because of hurt and unforgiveness. Philos is not perfect in the fact that it can be shattered. It is not absolutely necessary to know Agape love to experience philos love. In fact many people in all types of relationship bonds are experiencing a degree of philos love, and because it has limitations there will be different degrees of philos expressions that can exist.

The third love is “Eros” from which we have the word erotica, and is sexual intimacy. This is a temporary expression of love and can also stand on its own. Eros love can be expressed with or without a marriage or commitment, and will last as long as erotica attraction has strength to support it. Eros is generally based upon physical attractions in most cases, but can also be an expression of Philos love that is developed. In truth if philos love has not been developed then Eros love will not have the same experience. Eros love, without first developing philos love is always an expression of a person’s own needs or desires, and is acted upon in a selfish manner that seeks to gratify a lust, with little concern for the partners needs. But Philos love has the ability to seek the needs of the partner instead of the selfish needs of Eros without Philos as its strength.

In order for a relationship to be sustained and become fully blessed by God, Agape love must be the foundation that supports philos love which will lead to the great experience of eros. If a triangle was to be cut horizontally into three levels and was sitting with the peak at the top, then the perfect relationship would function with Agape love as the base section, Philos love as the mid section, and Eros love as the peak. If a relationship is being attempted to be built upon the peak of eros and not the foundation of Agape then it will topple sooner or later, every time.
