[quote:Anonymous Coward 71632887:MV8zMTk3NzM2XzU3MTMwODExXzc4OUU5Q0E3] [quote:Anonymous Coward 72269740:MV8zMTk3NzM2XzU3MTMwNzQ2XzkwRDFCQTdD] I was white boss lady over a bunch of young Indian fellows. I had no issue apart from the instructions being conveyed in Hindi. There weren't even any issues over me being female.
That's good to hear. That was a good experience, then. This was the first race based work experience I had. Obviously, I wouldn't put it on everyone as a race, but....the activity he did (stop work, start talking to other people, interfere with my work in my space/area) without even the TINIEST concern that he was bothering the living daylights out of me because I didn't know him and he was constantly in my way, walking behind me, talking, and interferring with my work. Which then escalated. I just want to sum up in my mind what happened, as I did just lose my job over this, and don't understand if people invading your workspace is a normal thing or something I was justified in needing to say something to him (i was kind, but stern) instead of excuse me (several hundred times) to it escalating to where he was threating violence towards me. I don't think I'm going to attempt another work related job where i (white) am in the minority around (black) people. Not because of the majority of black people, but because it was just not a positive experience.
I was just indefinitely suspended from a job where I was one white person out of hundreds of people. Is it normal for someone to constantly interfere with your work area to the point you have to spend a majority of your day focusing on that person and where they are instead of on your job and it escalating to the point the other person is threatening to kill you outside of work?
I don't think I'll try work at another place where this would occur.
