Take at night (just before going to bed) to help increase natural production of melatonin.

. 100 mg vitamin B-3 niacinamide
. 1,000 mg. calcium
. 500 mg. magnesium

Take in the morning (upon awaking):
. 25-50 mg. vitamin B-6 pyridoxine

Melatonin is a hormone of the pineal gland, also produced by extra-pineal tissues, that lightens skin color in amphibians by reversing the darkening effect of MSH (Melanotropin hormone). Melatonin has been postulated as the mediator of photic-induced antigonadotrophic activity in photoperiodic mammals and has also been shown to be involved in thermoregulation in some ectotherms and in affecting locomotor activity rhythms in sparrows.

Melatonin is one of the most versatile and potent substances in the body, a principal player in the maintenance of health and well-being in all stages of life. Not only does this amazing hormone counteract stress, fight off viruses and bacteria, improve the quality of sleep, minimize the symptoms of jet lag, and regulate biological rhythms, it may even help protect against cancer, reduce the risk of heart disease, and play a role in determining how long we live.

Melatonin has little or no toxicity. It has been shown through various studies to be an extremely safe, nontoxic, and nonaddictive hormone.

High intensity lighting or motors or electrical clocks, anything creating a electromagetic field placed too close to the head (within 3 feet) for an extended time may effect the pineal gland, which in turn will effect blood calcium and the body's internal clocks and melatonin production.

The pineal gland (3rd Eye) is a light-sensitive organ which requires stimulation from electromagnetic impulses from the optic nerves. Sunlight enters the eye and triggers retinal nerve impulses which travel to the pineal gland. From there, the resulting nerve impulses from the pineal gland are fed to the hypothalamus and pituitary, which control, mediate or affect many of the vital functions of the body. Additionally, only the pineal gland makes melatonin from serotonin, a process which operates strictly according to day-night cycles. Melatonin formation is stopped by light and proceeds in darkness. So, we find the pineal gland, because of its sensitivity to light, has a profound effect on the biorhythms of the body. It is a kind of biological clock that affects the timing of certain physiological functions.

Melatonin works together with tryptophan in the brain to regulate the sleep/wake cycle. We find that alpha is the healing state of conscious, awakened mind, while sleep interspersed with vivid dreams is known to be a wonderful restorative. The pineal gland, in other words, may be called the "peace gland" because of its biochemical role in rest, relaxation, and healing.
