Original Message First, a description of Project Thor. The idea for the weapon is nothing new, but launch costs would have been too high and the project was mothballed. The short version is a computerized crowbar that would be simply dropped on opponents from orbit, obliterating whatever it strikes quickly and cleanly, like a man-made meteor.

Curiously, the Air Force is spending quite a lot of money for the development of a new device that would be able to fire individual kinetic energy weapons into space.

With this technology, the U.S. will be able to effectively blow up anything anywhere on the surface of the planet. Chuck some of these not-so-harmless "microsatellites" into orbits that criss-cross the globe, and when you want something killed dead, send the signal...same concept as Thor, only instead of putting the launch platform in space they will put it in southern California.

The geopolitical implications would be quite important. Imagine being able to take out a hardened bunker in N.K. before they have time to arm the missiles with the touch of a button. Imagine a few hundred of these things descending on a nation at once, obliterating a whole arsenal at once. I also must wonder what would happen if you used a canister full of ball bearings on a city.

I feel pity for whichever organization or nation stands in the way of the U.S. war machine once this system goes online.
