Dear Mr. Limbaugh,

Last November, you said you were done with "carrying the water" for the Republican leadership. While one could argue that this was six years of the George W. Bush presidency too late, better late than never. And it was very heartening, indeed, to hear you denounce Amnesty II: 21 Years After as the Comprehensive Destroy the Republican Party Act, although it could just as accurately be described as the Comprehensive Destroy America Act.

I do not, of course, suggest what is good for the Republican Party is always good for America, or vice-versa, but in the case of ongoing Mexican migration, there can be no doubt what the Republican leadership is currently pushing is bad for both the Republican Party and America alike. It is encouraging to know there is at least one major conservative commentator who is neither politically insane nor culturally suicidal.

I also agree with you that Rep. Ron Paul's chance of winning the Republican nomination bears no little resemblance to the proverbial chance of the snowball in hell. And yet, as you well know, even the most wildly improbable event can take place. After all, we are reliably informed by physicists that the mere fact we are here on this planet today is in massive defiance of universal odds.

You are aware that you possess the power to dictate the Republican nominee, especially in this election cycle when the Republican leadership is trying to force Republicans to choose between three Democrats wearing away jerseys. And, you surely also recognize that Hillary will be the Democratic nominee, and Sen. Obama is merely media candy to keep reporters occupied until the two-horse race begins in earnest.

I very much doubt you believe either Giuliani or McCain can beat Hillary, given the way in which they share her views on headline issues such as immigration, national security and foreign occupation. As for Romney, I'm sure you recall how former governors of Massachusetts didn't fare particularly well in previous national elections, even when they ran as Democrats. I don't know if you're holding out any hope for Fred Thompson, but in light of the disdain he holds for the First Amendment, it is pretty clear that he is a conservative mirage in the mode of George W. Bush in 2000.

So, the probability is, regardless of which of the four "major" candidates are nominated, Republicans will not only lose in 2008 but lose in a landslide of epic, Reagan-Mondale proportions that will kill their chances in 2012 as well. In this case, aren't you free to make use of your power without any concern for "electability?" After all, "electability" means nothing but the approval of the mainstream media.

It's true that without your endorsement, Ron Paul cannot win the Republican nomination. But with your endorsement, I believe he has a shot. If you are willing to take him seriously, who else can refuse? And wouldn't you like to see a man who respects the Constitution in the White House for once? Can America really afford one more president who is willing to sell out the country to foreign interests and turn the American military into U.N. mercenaries enforcing United Nations' resolutions? Doesn't America need a genuinely principled leader who will put the rights and liberties of American citizens before everything else? Don't the American people at least deserve the right to choose between their historical freedoms and the socialist vision of Hillary Clinton?

You are 56 years old. You have accomplished many of your goals, and yet the country you dearly love is rapidly spiraling towards its ultimate destruction. If you do not make use of your power to save it now, will you truly be in a better position to do so in 2016, after eight more years of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton rule? How much longer does America have before she is irretrievably caught in a web of transnational treaties violating her national sovereignty?

Mr. Limbaugh, I am urging you to do the right thing. I am asking you to set aside all of the pragmatic political considerations that have reduced the Republican party to its current state and to endorse the only candidate who is genuinely devoted to returning conservative principles to the party and liberty to the people.

I am asking you, Mr. Limbaugh, to publicly endorse Rep. Ron Paul for president.

With respect,

Vox Day
