So, I was fool enough to install, several months ago, AOL/Kaspersky antivirus. Now, I realized that AOL is not to be trusted, but Kaspersky has SUCH a good reputation that I thought it would be OK. It wasn't.
Kaspersky used far too many of my CPU cycles, just running in the background. Indeed, on occasion Process Explorer informed me that it was over 90%!
So, uninstalled Kaspersky and installed Avast, which seems OK. However, there is some fragment of Kaspersky which prevents all of Avast's functions from operating.
Ran regedit, did a search, and found: Name ab(Default) Type REG_SZ Data {dd230880-495a-11d1-b064-008048ec2fc5}
Now, I am essentially one of the computer illiterati, but even so, seems to me that if I deleted this registry entry (AFTER backing up the registry of course), rebooted, and degfragmented the registry, this would solve the problem.
Am I correct, or is my head up my butt again?
No offense to any responders, but as this is my first request for assistance on this matter, I'll also find some computer forum and ask for a second opinion. Mere prudence, after all.
Anyway, watcha think? Nuke the entry?
