Thompson: Terrorists Won't Rest Until 'Mushroom Cloud' Seen Over U.S. City 2007-12-31 06:06am
Republican presidential contender Fred Thompson said in a new video to Iowa voters that the coming election is critical because the nation faces the threat of terrorism for years to come.
"That the years ahead will be dangerous needs no elaboration from me," Mr. Thompson, an actor and former U.S. senator from Tennessee, said in the video.
"Most Americans know the forces of terrorism will not rest until a mushroom cloud hangs over one of our cities," he added.
Mr. Thompson is running third or fourth in most national polls, about the same as in Iowa, the state where the first presidential caucus will be held Jan. 3.
Other issues that should be important to Americans, he said, were "the economy, taxes, protecting our borders, and protecting the right to life."
Mr. Thompson also hit on some positive notes.
"By any measure, we live in the greatest country in the history of the world," he said. "Every generation of Americans has an obligation to keep it that way."
