The Shadow Side of Being Indigo/Crystal

A note from Norma:
For many years I've been treating children who are energy-sensitive and their pre-Indigo parents. As I've watched this generation grow up, some general principles have emerged. Others in the field of Indigo and Crystal Children have written well on the better known aspects, and so I want to focus on what I do best — looking at the energetic origins of the new souls incarnating now, and how that assists and challenges them.
Background
Indigos and most souls incarnating onto Earth since 1972 come with a strong predisposition to express Unity Consciousness. Simply put, they do not have a hard-wiring into societal morality around what is 'right' and 'wrong'. Rather than judge what they see, they walk into situations, experience it for themselves, and decide whether or not they want to continue their experience. Their decision making is not based on good or evil, but on how the experience makes them feel.
Souls incarnating into our planet have traditionally come in groups. The Indigos and Crystals are best known, and since 2002 what I'm calling the Earth Children have begun to incarnate in the United States. These are souls with long histories of living as shamans or leaders of indigenous peoples. Their very foundation and focus is upon rebalancing the physical form of Gaia, the Earth. Not to maintain status-quo, but to let us all move in the healing spiral with Gaia and the Galaxy.
The focus of the Indigos and Crystals is primarily upon the energetic matrix which underlies form. These are souls with little history of incarnation upon the Earth. Because of this, we will see the Crystals and Indigos relying upon the Earth Children for guidance in the ways of the Earth. In fact, the Crystal souls are frequently not just from a higher dimension, but melded with aspects of themselves co-existing in other planets or realities. In short, their DNA is only a part of what determines their body. Experiences from lifetimes on other planets as members of other species also determine their human body's structure. What society deems as deformities are merely reflections of their other incarnations elsewhere.
A Note on Energy Work for Healers:

Because many Crystals and Indigos choose to express through unique body styles, what is most powerful is to address their bodies outside of the textbook. Meridians, chakras, even bone densities and suture rhythms are some of the features that they are choosing to create differently. Each distinction gives them an avenue for different energies to express through their physical body. They are choosing to create their bodies in a manner that gives them exactly the vehicle needed for their specific manifestation.
For very psychic children the cranial rhythms will be unusual. Do not attempt to re-set their bodies to what is considered 'normal'. What is natural for these children is much higher and quicker than children even of just the past decade.
In dealing with those about to be born (Earth Children) the DNA becomes even less important. More and more the veil between dimensions and other incarnations is dropping. Physical traits, emotional strengths, the love of beauty, and honor for all life are among the primary qualities that these new souls are about to bring into your planet. On behalf of all of us not in form, we honor you, who are about to welcome them.
The Earth as a Harsh and Heavy Place:
In order for the gifts of Crystal and Indigo souls to move into our 3rd dimensional reality their souls had to incarnate into this reality. Remember these are souls who have not been in form before. While in the upper dimensions no doubt they observed us here on Earth, and made plans for their lifetime here. But upon incarnating, they found the coarseness of this Earth painful to their bodies. Their minds find our way of thinking heavy and burdensome. Their spiritual breath can be suffocated by beliefs they are exposed to day after day.
Many chose parents or situations that were likely to understand them, and support them in finding their own way. Even so, for many of Crystal and Indigo souls, the contrast between what the soul has experienced in other lifetimes (generally not on this planet, but in 4th and 5th dimensions elsewhere) has not adequately prepared them for the harshness of our 3rd dimensional world. They can feel Home within themselves. And the outer world is not Home. There is pain when they let the outer world touch them in any way.
Addictions Specific to Psychics:
Addictions cover up this pain. If anyone drinks, uses drugs, drives fast or smokes interesting substances enough, the pain you begin to feel is the pain you are causing yourself. That is more tolerable than feeling the pain the outer world causes. I would add another addiction to this — that of bringing into one's body consciousnesses or energies other than your own.
The soul legally incarnating is another way of saying the soul who has dominion over this body. For those of any age there can be a joining with streams from another consciousness other than our own. We might do this to further our own experiences or explorations in this lifetime. This is a blended channeling, and lasts from a few minutes to a few weeks.
Those under 35 years of age tend to play with streams of consciousness not proper to their soul as a means of entertainment. For them the earthly world is nearly risk free. It is of little importance. True, this is due in part to their youthful perception, but also in part because their connection to spirit lets them know the shallowness of the physical world. For them inviting inside of themselves other energies or consciousness is a form of exploring their internal energy world.
For those born since 1972 the internal world is much more real than the external physical world. For them the world of energy on the inside is their world. By playing and learning to manipulate the energies inside of themselves, including mental and emotional energies, they are learning how to create reality. This reality will not exist only within them, but all around them, and around us, in the form of a new Earth and a new physical reality.
Here is where those born since 1972 come in. They are practicing the art of internal energy manipulation which is the essence of creation in the new physicality. This is not that far off by our count of linear time. By 2015 we will be creating primarily from the heart space of desire and we will be aware that we are doing it! Crystals and Indigos are leading, and showing us this path.
Supporting Their Exploration
Remember that Crystals and Indigos do not judge. They discern through personal experience. Being able to bring in and play with energies, they have included all energies in their play. It is only by experiencing their creations that they have a means of understanding what it is that they have done. As they recognize which energies create what, then they will be able to steer their creations in a manner that supports the type of creation they desire. Just as one needs to know which way to turn at an intersection, these children are learning now what it is that each energetic direction creates in their worlds.
For this reason rules simply don't work with them. Neither do punishments. Most are wise beyond simple concepts of 'right' and 'wrong'. They need to feel what feels comfortable, and what feels uncomfortable. And to talk with others about their experiences. Because their souls, especially the Crystals, have not been on Earth before, they need to spend extra time learning what comfortable even is in this physical reality.
Indigos and Kundalini

The kundalini channels are activated in most humans through a series of conscious and unconscious actions. Perhaps 43% of those born between 1949 — 1972 in the United States have some awareness, even perhaps some activation of kundalini. Most born in the US before 1949 have none.
Among those that you would call Crystals or Indigos, 95% of those born since 1990 have their kundalini channels already in place. The channels are clear and clean and ready. A few understand the process of kundalini and have used it and raised the energy itself. These are the wunderkinder [wonderchildren] that you are seeing; the child healers, the miracle makers, yes even the millionaire child of the business world and musical prodigies. This is their use of kundalini.
The majority of those born since 1990 are withholding the raising of their kundalini for the moment. Their bodies contain clear and appropriate channels for the energy, but they are choosing to not yet utilize it as a part of their creative tools.
Now There are Four Kundalini Snakes, Not Two
Many practices of kundalini awareness and use have been developed, but none yet reflects the new ability of the four strands of kundalini. This is your own ability to tap into two strands feminine, two strands masculine. Each of these strands reflects an aspect of your self. A set of masculine and feminine channels reflect the body, another set of masculine and feminine channels reflect the soul.
In your new ideal world, those of age (35-36) will raise their kundalini energies based on four complete snakes. They may mirror or reflect the learning and experiences of partners and parents, but each of the energies will be firstly, and primarily, tuned to that of their own body and soul.
This then allows the joining with a mate to be the joining of two complete beings.. The four channels in each potentially multiply during the sacred joining, becoming sixteen in power, and beyond that exponentially to 256 channels. In time the light channels of kundalini envelope the physical body. Ascension occurs.

The possibilities and trials faced by Crystals, Indigos, their parents and teachers is formidable. With the great powers of creation lying within their bodies, and accessible to them at early childhood, and distant sensations of other dimensions, they need guidance in this world to find their way.
Early Onset of Psychic Abilities
A Story
A few months ago a new client came to me. His mother and father had seen me years before for energy healing and channeling. They thought of me when it became clear their son was approaching a crisis. As he lay on the table, I called upon his soul to direct the healing. Almost immediately the room filled with a putrid grey smoke. A few questions later, it became clear that this was the soul of his grandfather, long dead. He was malicious, physically abusive when in form, and downright unpleasant to have in the room. I asked if the grandfather had crossed over, and if we could speak to that aspect of him. Slowly the grey smoke transformed into a caressing white mist. The entire room filled with a gentle light, and the teenager's body relaxed, coming to stillness. The mist seemed to lovingly stroke the physical body of the teen, and as it did, there was a message of kindness, and a deep moment asking for, and receiving forgiveness.
What is remarkable here is not the healing, but the process and quickness of such a deep healing from childhood trauma. I am not a medium. It is a side-line that I can do, but only when needed. When the room filled entirely with the remembered personality of the grandfather, it indicated to me that it was not my self calling it in, but the teenage client. When the entire room transformed, again that was the teenage client calling to his grandfather's soul on the other side. Upon seeing and sensing grandfather's soul at its new level of love, residing on the other side of the veil, the teen's body dropped its cording to the grandfather's energies of abuse he recalled as a young child. In an instant the teen's physical body transformed itself from the victim that was, unable to come to rest or ground adequately, into a new, not yet fully formed, teenage body.
After the session, I spoke with him, and we laid out a game plan to help him learn the vocabulary of a psychic medium. It was his gift as a medium that both cursed him and blessed him. He had inherited the gift, at least in part, from his father. This crisis point in the teen's life was also an opportunity for his father to open up his own gifts, long abandoned.
Not everything in the teen's life was shifted. In the first session it became clear that he was a medium. What he was constantly seeing now made sense to him and to his parents. Over the course of many months he learned to talk more out-loud. His parents are learning to share themselves with him at a deeper emotional level. Trust is being built between all of the family members, as well as between the teen's own mind and body.
Some children and young adults are not on this path. While it is very sad, the issue of suicide must be addressed to the Indigo and Crystal generations. Living so far away from their spiritual home in upper dimensions, the Crystals are highly susceptible to suicide. This world is harsh, and going home seems the answer. Suicide may be done as a conscious act of taking their own individual life, or it may appear as a less conscious act, like a group of teens dying in a car accident. Both are suicides. Those of us on this side can feel when a car crash is guided by the soul, or when it is guided by the impulse of the personality.
What to Do:
Those who have already died will be looking initially to their parents, friends and siblings for support. Although their bodies are gone, their habits remain. They can not initially see their angels, but they see those in human form. It is our love for them that lets us call their angels to come and help them. It is by their seeing our love for each other and for them that they remember what love is, and to where they may pass now.
Those who live with the memory of a friend's or sibling's suicide can easily feel the call to commit suicide themselves. It is within their psychic powers to tune into this quality of thought and emotion. It is important that their heart and emotional connections to those still living and around them are nurtured greatly. Make the call of living louder than the call of suicide. Families must talk. Deeply talk.
I was in attendance at a series of readings given by the television psychic John Edward. Not planned, except by Spirit, the readings focused on teens and young adults who had suicided themselves. What became clear was the intensity of the unresolved issues of the siblings and friends still on this side. Families and friends were talking about the suicide, but not sharing their emotions. There was no place for their hearts to be received.
To Crystals and Indigos:
Ask the emotion if it is really yours.
Addictions cover inner turmoil. Suicide seems like a doorway home. Neither drugs nor suicide is a solution, and neither let's your soul dance upon the Earth plane freely.
One aspect of suicide is a lack of deep, heartfelt communion with other humans. Those who are deeply empathic feel so much that they sometimes close their hearts, rather than feel another's pain. Asking the painful emotion, 'Is this really mine?', helps to distinguish between your own natural emotions and the emotions swirling around you. By asking it if it is really yours, you let it know that you feel it. Any emotion that is not yours will not remain in your heart or energy field. It will seek its own way to evolve, to go to its home. It hurts you largely because it is not yours to have in your heart or body.
When a parent or friend is not deeply feeling their own sadness or anger, it is too easy for a Crystal or Indigo to try to help them by taking it on. But no one can change or heal energies that are rightfully being created by another person. Those energies, even emotions, are tuned to that particular person. You might be able to make them feel a little happier for a short while, but it will pass.
Sadness, anger and grief are used by humans to motivate themselves to change. They are pointy sticks. They are meant to be uncomfortable so that the human personality will give into its Soul. Do not take away the pointy sticks that your parents and friends are creating for themselves, for they will just have to make more pointy sticks! Ask if the sensation, color, emotion or whatever you notice in your body, heart or aura is really yours. Over time you will find some underlying belief about trying to help or needing to help them. This underlying belief is yours to understand, and perhaps adjust, if you choose.
Ultimately healing is not changing another so you don't have to feel their pain. Healing is holding another in love, letting them have their pain, and loving them anyway. This is a lesson that Crystal and Indigo souls are learning now upon the Earth.
For Parents and Friends:
Suicide is seen by many Crystal and Indigo souls as a way to go home, a way to not experience the pain of this Earthly reality. It is imperative that those talking about suicide or withdrawing from activities be reminded of the importance of their unique contribution to the world. If they don't do what they have come here to do, who will do it? No one. No one else has their gifts, their skills, their talents. The future will bring possibilities in workstyles and lifestyles we can't imagine. But they can imagine these jobs, these ways of living. For the sake of all of us, they must bring what they imagine through into this Earth.
The idea of committing suicide happens not all at once. Most people will contemplate suicide methods for a while, perhaps years. People often have a plan of how to do it, but don't have a gun or pills or a car to crash. Then there are those who do have cars, access to guns and pills, but no plan of ever committing suicide. It is when there is both a plan (what to do) and means (the gun, car, or pills) that a suicide could be imminent.
Ask your friend if they have a plan. Listen to them. Ask them if they have what they need to make the plan work. If they have both a plan and the things they need to carry it out, call a suicide hotline or a trusted mentor immediately. Tell them how much you would miss them. If it is true, tell them you love them.
The soul has worked very hard to create its Earthly body. The personality may be ready to leave, but the soul isn't. When someone dies naturally, at the timing of the soul, there is grief, but a completion of the soul's journey is felt. A death by suicide is an interruption in the cycle of incarnation. These deaths feel different.
Soul's who have suicided do reach the other side, crossing into the light, but only after learning by remaining here, observing. They often do help other family members and friends while here. Remember, suicide is not a one-day thought. It grows over time, and remains an option for many years.
Siblings often consider suicide together. So do friends. In some cases one will die, others remain here. The person who suicides may take years to find their way home into the light of Spirit on the other side. Once they do, a portion of their soul, at that level of unconditional love known only to Spirit, returns. Their friends or siblings contemplating suicide receive gentle messages, encouraging them to remain here. The lessons learned through suicide by their friend, their brother, their sister, are brought to them on this side. Again, tell your friend, your brother, your sister, your children, that you love them, that you would miss them if they weren't here.
A Final Story:
Jennifer Hoffman is a channel for the angel Uriel, and the mother of a young adult son who went through a period of suicide. She has written about this on her website, www.urielheals.com. Here is a portion of her story:
"When my Indigo son finally came out of his suicidal period, he wrote me a letter in which he expressed his gratitude at the unwavering love that I gave him, even when he was at his most unlovable and told me that he probably would not be here if it weren't for my efforts. As I write this, several years after receiving that letter, I am overcome with emotion because I know how much he suffered and how difficult it was for him to make the decision to stay. I had to convince him that his place was here, that moving to the next level meant finding the best outlet for his skills and gifts and together we worked on discovering what that was."
In an email follow up, Jennifer shared this:
"He is now almost 25 years old and doing very well even though we still have some difficult moments. He trusts me and listens to me, which helps. And you are right, we have to get them to the next level and then they can find their gifts — once they do, they are fine."
It is my hope that those who are reading this might find some relief from any amount of their own blame or guilt around the illness, death, or suicide of a beloved friend, brother, sister or child. The soul's journey for each is unique. At any point that journey can be changed. And the gifts brought by each generation, be they Indigos or Crystals, or Earth Children, leads to the healing of the whole.
