[quote:Anonymous Coward 402366:MV81Mjc1MTRfODExNTcxMV9EOTU1Mzk1Nw==] I usually buy potatoes in 10 lb bags. (10 lb bags are often on sale and cheaper than 5 lb) I keep them in a net bag in the vegetable crisper drawer in the fridge. They keep well for two or three months. They never sprout, but after a while they do start to dry out and shrivel up. That's when it's time to make veggie soup, stew or potato soup & use them up. I keep onions the same way. . [/quote]
Original Message
Does anyone have any good ideas on how to keep garlic and potatoes from sprouting? Lately It seems that all my garlic and potatoes are sprouting faster than they normally do. I can't eat them fast enough to keep up. I've seen those big braided rows of garlic that people keep, and I don't understand how they keep them from sprouting!
Should I make absolutely sure that they are not getting ANY sunlight?
(I think the cabinet I keep them in leaks sunlight)
Keep them in the fridge? I've never kept potatoes in the fridge, but if it will keep longer then I will do that.
Any suggestions?
