My recent dating experiences through match.com and Craigslist....

I am a single white guy, fit, well educated and well adjusted. I consider myself normal in every sense of the word. I figure i am decent looking because all of the women i have dated have been decent looking as well. But some of these girls have some issues!

The first girl i met through CL was odd. We met for drinks at Red Robin. I could tell right away this was going to be an odd one. We got a table in the bar and she was having great difficulty making ANY eye contact with me what so ever. She had one word answers for everything and didnt offer much in the way of conversation. OK, so you are not interested. Thats fine because i wasn't either. I believe she is very insecure, and it was painful to watch.

One of the first girls i met through match wanted to have dinner and wine and watch the sunset at a fancy place near the beach. Now i am all for that stuff, but it doesn't seem right on the first date when you dont know someone well. So i took her bowling and then to Olive Garden. The conversation was ok, but i wasn't feeling any chemistry. She was about 10 years younger and just didnt seem to have the kind of life experiences i am hoping for. I dropped her off at her car after dinner and we called it an evening. My buddy says she has Cinderella complex-expects the guy to wine and dine her while riding up on a white stallion.

Last Tuesday, I met a woman for coffee and conversation. I figured things were going south pretty quickly because she didnt take her sunglasses off till my coffee was almost gone. The conversation was a little strained in that she didn't talk much either. No more immigrant women.

The previous woman I met sounded fun and compatible. We talked by phone for about 2 hours and it sounded like she had her shit together. MBA, decent job, similar interests etc. We met over a game of pool and had a good time. Got some food and had a pretty good time and good conversation. The evening ended with a hug and mutual interest in meeting again. We met again for dinner about a week later all the while chatting on IM during the days. Decent conversation. Then she gets kinda quiet on IM. This goes on for a couple days so I ask about it. She says I said something that made her feel odd. I ask what i did because i was unaware of anything i might have done that might be offensive. She says that while we were chatting on IM i said "your stock is going up" (which i did) when she said something that i felt made her more interesting to me. I asked what was wrong with that since thats a pretty common phrase/compliment. She says that she doesn't want to be treated like a commodity and that phrase isn't something one should say in the early stages of a relationship. I ask if she is a sensitive person ("sensitive" being a euphemism for insecure) and she says she is HIGHLY self critical/and "over analyzes" everything. We haven't chatted much since then. I suspect something is wrong with this one.

I have been chatting for a while with a woman i contacted through match. I talked to her by phone for about an hour recently and it was really a tough conversation. She is from another country and has one of those voices that is like fingernails on a chalkboard. Against my better judgement, we met this weekend for dinner. Turns out she is almost 10 (yes TEN!!!!) years older than she said she was on match. I don't like being lied to. I called that one an evening after dinner.

I met a black woman who seemed like she was fairly intelligent and looking for the same things i am. Went out twice. Bowling and dinner. There just didn't seem to be any chemistry.

So i am thinking of switching to Yahoo personals to see if I have any better luck. I have always had multi-year relationships until recently. Frankly i wish i was still in one because i had NO IDEA dating could be so challenging.

I like meeting new people and doing stuff with them, but I am finding it very difficult to meet people that are compatible.

Is anyone else having similar problems? Does anyone have a better way to meet healthy quality women?
