[quote:-Freak-:MV83MjgxMDhfMTExNjU0MjFfRkU0ODI2MTQ=] [quote:Anonymous Coward 614439] They haven't released the cockpit recordings yet have they? As a former pilot I would say they might have given verbal indications of the situation. And....the flight recorder will give a good indication of the flight parameters. I would say that if they can recreate the final minute of flight they should even be able to provide a computer simulation of the descent path into the house. [/quote] Comm with the aircraft just before the crash indicated heavy ice buildup. Tail icing have been mentioned as a possible cause, but new information about the aircraft being in a relatively flat attitude at impact makes me think that wing stall and flat spin might be involved as a tail stall would drop the nose fast and beyond recovery at that altitude. Plane fell flat onto Buffalo house!
CLARENCE, N.Y. – A commuter plane that smashed into a house apparently plunged flat to the ground rather than nose-diving, ending up pointed away from the airport it was trying to reach, investigators said Saturday.
Investigators did not offer an explanation as to why the plane ended up pointed away from the Buffalo airport.
Continental Connection Flight 3407 was cleared to land on a runway pointing to the southwest, but it crashed with its nose pointed northeast, said Steve Chealander, a National Transportation Safety Board member.
