[quote:Scruffy MacScruffovich:MV83MzkzOTFfMTI5MjE4OTZfNjYxODk1Qw==] [quote:Anonymous Coward 720918] Farm fields may get ransacked if there is no protection.Backyard gardens too. But, you may have a roof over your head if you can keep the car. Nah, I don't believe 10 million starved to death. Someone's just trying to grab a headline. Such a serious problem that no one ever heard of it before now? Unlikely.
Governments play with numbers all the time. I was watching a documentary just last night about the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, and what would happen if another quake of the same magnitude hit today. The official death toll, which was voted on by the San Francisco City Council, was 465. They stuck to that number, and it has become the accepted number for over 100 years. Some researchers digging through old city records and interviewing thousands of families that lived in the area at that time concluded that the number was woefully low. Thousands, perhaps as many as 10,000 died in that quake. The city didn't even bother to count the minority deaths, the Chinese in particular. It's not beyond possibility that the US wanted to keep the Depression deaths, or at least the published deaths, as low as possible. :moshpit:
