The way you see yourself in a mirror differs from the way others see you in real life.

Studies have shown that when you check out someone else your eyes are most likely drawn to the right side of their face. Yet when gaze upon your own reflection your eyes are programmed to study what is actually the left side of your face. So unless you are blessed with a perfectly symmetrical visage, you don't appear to others how you think you look.

Researchers tested this by showing people a photograph of themselves and then a mirror image of that photograph. While the person in the picture almost always chose the mirror image as more attractive, their partner almost always picked the photo.
