[quote:DaJavoo:MV83NTgxNTJfMTE2NDAzNjBfQkJDRkMwQTI=] [quote:Anonymous Coward 631883] Why did you start a thread on unemployment when there is already one? :dumbass:
If you will look closely ~ the threads are actually about DIFFERENT topics. This thread is about the GOVERNMENT statistics ~ they publish one thing, but the TRUE number is twice as high. (As if most people can't figure it out...but I digress.) The thing is the info is out there, but you have to dig. In the mean time, Big Bro blows that smoke up our tailpipes to make us feel warm and fuzzy about things not being so bad. Had I seen Phenom's thread, I would have added to it ~ which I have done (before your comment, I might add.)
So...the rate of unemployment for February is 8.1%
Check this table at the Dept. of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics website:

Note the U-6 Measure:
U-6
~ Total unemployed, plus all marginally attached workers,* plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all marginally attached workers.
NOTE: Marginally attached workers are persons who currently are neither working nor looking for work but indicate that they want and are available for a job and have looked for work sometime in the recent past. Discouraged workers, a subset of the marginally attached, have given a job-market related reason for not looking currently for a job. Persons employed part time for economic reasons are those who want and are available for full-time work but have had to settle for a part-time schedule.
UNADJUSTED: 16.0%
SEASONALLY ADJUSTED: 14.8%
One out of every SEVEN workers.
