[quote:Fastwalker:MV84MTQwOTdfMTI1NzUxOTNfQzFEMDVCRjk=] Sorry to post this twice, but I wasn't logged in, and am quite willing to use my login name for this post. It is slightly updated: As usual, the GLP doom & gloom parade is marching through this thread in full glory. First of all, why is it self-evident that Obama wants to turn the USA into a (gasp!) socialist state? Besides the wisdom of FOX News, Glenn Beck Alex Jones, Steve Quayle and Rush Limbaugh, and the Republican Party (part of the religious right wing fringe and guns & ammo survivalists), who says so? We are dealing with economic collapse brought on by 8 years of total deregulated Wall Street capitalism. It was brought down by human greed. Can anyone here face reality once in a while? Capitalism with NO REGULATION led to this catastrophe. To just trust that the capitalist elites would play fair is insane. Yet Bush just looked the other way as we crashed. Hell, we could not even trust our food sources to be clean anymore, since Bush gutted the budget for food inspections. Who would have believed unfettered capitalism without regulation would lead to massive peanut butter recalls, the food most often fed to children and elderly adults? Yet you all wring your hands and predict the country will be WORSE under Obama? How much worse can it get? Bush took away 200 years of ethical treatment of prisoners, brought on massive spying of the American public, built FEMA camps, said he was above the law, etc. Again, you think Obama is going to ruin this country? I'm just appalled at your collective amnesia. OK, so in a time of unprecedented economic disaster (at least in 80 years), Obama pumps money into Wall Street, and into the auto industries (which have been poorly managed for decades leading to their own collapse). Do I agree with bailing out Wall Street? No! I think it is time the elite get flung into jail rather than being given million dollar bonuses for failure. But what would you have Obama do, NOTHING? The Stimulus was an attempt to get money to state governments to jump start the local economies. Will it work? Maybe. Maybe not. But again, what should Obama do, just say "NO" (The Republican answer to any problem is to basically deny it exists!). What I see in 10 years is a country probably not much different than now, except: 1. We will have another 10 years worth of technological advancement in the medical and communications fields. Within 10 years, I expect the pocket phone will be an all purpose PC and communication device, perhaps capable of doing things we can't imagine right now. 2. With stem cell research, we may have real progress against Parkinsons Disease. The British, who never stopped stem cell research as the US did under that idiot Bush, just announced a CURE to macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindless. My father is BLIND due to this, and I have the beginning signs of it. THANK GOD FOR THE BRITISH! They have taken a horrible disease and found a stem cell answer that (in 5 years) will turn the treatment into an out-patient procedure that only takes about 15 minutes! Now THAT is science! 3. The economy will still be enemic, but will be improving a great deal. People will have adjusted to life style shifts and new types of jobs that pay well. 4. Temporary socialist sounding acts to stop the economic collapse of 2008-2009 will be long gone, and America will be a strong capitalist economy with necessary REGULATORY MANAGEMENT of ethics and greed, rather than looking the other way. 5. Gay marriage will be common in many states, as it has been in Canada for 6 years already! People in retrospect will wonder what all the right wing fuss was about. Unless you are gay, it won't be an issue for you. 6. We will have private health care insurance AND a public insurance option, which will act to keep private care costs down (since competition is what is supposed to keep prices down, remember? Now private companies form a monopoly over the field). 7. Right wing Christians will still be predicting the Wrath of God and the End Times. 8. International politics will be tense, as it always has been. China will be one of our closest economic allies, since we keep each other alive. Islamic terrorists will still be ranting and raving, but Obama's public relations tours of the mideast will defuse their overall power. 9. The DONT ASK, DONT TELL policy in the military will be long gone, making the USA the same as all other Western European military policies of TODAY, allowing openly gay people to serve (Israel is also this way today). The effect? None. 10. Ruppert Murdoch will finally die, and his right wing hate-monger media empire will defang itself. Fox news will gradually live up to its slogan of being fair and balanced, rather than a pure mouth piece for the Republican party. Rush Limbaugh, weighing in at 534 pounds, will still be considered the de facto leader of the Republican party. Glenn Beck will lose his audience after being discovered in his bedroom wearing a ballerina tutu while in bed with an underage male prostitute. [/quote]

It's clear the current administration wants to move towards a socialistic state. Will the people settle for that? Will we find a middle ground and be happy? Will there be civil unrest?
Honestly I don't see how all that's happening now can end in a peaceful manner.
So what will America look like?
