[quote:**ZetaMax**:MV84MTQ3MzlfMjg1NzI2MjVfRjFERUQwMkU=] [quote:Circuit Breaker:MV84MTQ3MzlfMjg1NzEwNDlfQjgwQUU4REY=] Cool! I've been working on getting my amateur radio station back on the air. Currently, all I have is a used Yaesu FT-100 and 80 meter dipole tuned with an LDG AT-200 Pro II Auto Tuner. It's not ideal but it works...I made contact with my hometown, San Diego, this morning on 14.295 MHz with a solid 5-9 to +10dB signal report. I have a Zero-Five GP1040 antenna arriving on Wednesday that I hope to get 10' above the roof next weekend if the weather cooperates. The antenna is non-resonant and requires a wide range tuner to work - hence the LDG auto tuner - which also helps me tune the entire 80/75M band on the dipole. I've never used a non-resonant antenna before and I'm concerned about the losses created by the high mismatch. But I've read some technical articles that state the losses are actually negligible...around 1 dB in most cases with a match of 10:1. In other words, assuming 6 dB per "S" unit, a 1 dB loss wouldn't even be noticed at the receiving end. I have a 2 element SteppIR yagi with one of those elements being a folded 40 meter dipole and 30 ft of tower that I'm working on getting up in the air. I want to procure another 10' of tower and a third element for the beam before putting it up...not to mention a good rotator. For a radio, I'm looking at a Yaesu FT-950...although I'd like to have an Icom IC-7600 or 7700.
I suppose this will enable you to continue "working" when the internet goes down. :paidshill:
PS: If any of you debunkers want to meet in the GLP text/voice chat for some LIVE audio conversation we should set a day/time to meet up in one of the rooms to have a discussion etc.
Would find it a pleasure to converse with some of you guys. I mean there's a wealth of different subjects to talk about besides this silly zetatalk stuff.
