[quote:tonybgb 660018:MV85MzMyNjdfMTQ0Njk2ODVfQjFGOERBREI=] [quote:Anonymous Coward 749713] My neighbors got on. A femal and huge about 140 pounds. But I have to say that is one of the sweetest nicest dogs I have ever seen. She loves the neighborhood kids and watches the bus stop everyday for them. I don't know if she would ever bite anyone but if someone came in the neighborhood and didn't know her she would definatly scare the crap out of them just by her size alone. i read on the web that the American Mastiff has a keen sense of whether a threat is present or not. If its a female its a good dog.He/she will cost you a fortune in food, need very long walks everyday; drools or slobbers a lot (mine used to use the cat to wipe her face off) and yes they don't live long -about 8 years...can have eye and hip problems.
Agree and disagree, food ,yes but long walks, no. Mastiffs prefer short walks, better for the weight to size ratio. Very protective of their environment, good with children Big problem as with all large dogs is bloat comes with them trying to eat too quick, keep the feeding bowl off floor level and use a stone within the bowl stops them gulping, you can get a special riser table for this. Be prepared for the gas....whilst growing they do not process protein as well as they should and they do smell bad !! Slobber, oh yes, when they let loose it goes everywhere, keep a towel handy All in all though brilliant dogs
