A 13-year-old girl has killed herself in the US after becoming the victim of sexting-related bullying.
The bullying began after Hope Witsell, from Florida, sent a topless photo of herself on her mobile to a boy she liked, the US Today show reports.
But another student who was using the boy's mobile phone at the time received the photo and forwarded it on to other students at the school.
A friend told the St Petersburg Times newspaper that Hope soon became the victim of cruel taunts.
"The hallways were not fun at that time — she'd walk into class and somebody would say, 'Oh, here comes the slut'," Hope’s friend, Lane James, told the newspaper.
Hope's mother, Donna Witsell, told the Today show she practised tough love on her daughter when she found out about the photo and grounded her over the summer.
But when Hope returned to school the next year the school also meted out its own punishment, suspending her and removing her from a student advisor position.
Ms Witsell told NBC news she found her daughter's body when went in to her bedroom to kiss her goodnight.
